After a 12 kilometer hike inside the National Park Taman Negara and a short sleep on a wooden cabin, the Kumbang Hide, I left the shelter by darkness long before sunrise to enjoy the awakening of nature alone, far away from people. This recording was made at six in the morning, shortly after sunrise. You can hear the chorus of birds and the echoing calls of the gibbons. It is the moment after the transition from night to day, where all creatures wake up but are still dreamy, and not quite awake.

Getting to the remote region of Chocó in not the easiest task. This is a place of pristine coastal rainforests, stretching down to the shore of the Pacific, with no roads, no mobile network, no vehicles, no electricity network, only accessible by boat. The recording was made at dusk on a deserted sand beach, with binaural microphones. It’s the perfect ocean soundscape.

While trekking at the famous Santa Cruz Valley in Huascaran Park in Peru we thought we shouldn’t miss the glacial lake Arhuaycocha, hidden behind a mountain. That meant another couple of hours of a steep climb along a winding path. On the way up to the mountain, the exhaustion spread and I had to leave behind my heavy loaded backpack. After an apparently endless trek, we reached the top and the beautiful lake behind at an altitude of 4500 meters.
This is the magic moment sitting next to the lake facing the Arhuay glacier listening to the waterfalls of meltwater, lucky enough to capture even an avalanche on tape.

The countryside of the Nakhon Ratchasima Province is one of the few regions, in which you can still experience the traditional way of life in Thailand. This recording of frogs was made inside the swampy paddy fields at night, outside the village of Khok Krachai.

Being on a canoe in twos for ten days inside the Amazon jungle, sleeping on the river banks at night with the sounds of insects and predators, paddling next to river dolphins, caimans, arapaimas, giant otters and electric eels, tracking monkeys in the jungle, fishing with spears is an experience of a lifetime. This is just a small insight. Please forgive my horrible spanish.

I cannot say what is more impressive: Visiting Machu Picchu or walking in the jungle by darkness, surrounded by hundreds of blinking fireflies. In retrospect, the second was more memorable. Here is the walk from Aqua Calientes (Machu Picchu town) to Hidroelectrica at night next to the railway track, through the tropical rainforest, passing rivers, lakes, and bridges.

One of the highlights of the Gold Museum (Museo del Oro) in Colombia is a sound and light installation, which takes place in a circular room of glass cases filled with hundreds of golden objects. The sound installation helps to contextualize the exhibited pieces of the Prehistoric indigenous people as cultural and spiritual artifacts.
